There are many different hotel finders, apartment links and rentals in Barcelona and each one has they preferred one. It is difficult to recommned one hotel but here follow some tips.
If I was to stay in a hotel in Barcelona I would choose two areas : the gothic town (Barri Gotic/Gotico) or the central Eixample (Eixample derecho).

The gothic town is very charming, the area where the tour begins on the 31st of December. If you stay in this area, you will be close to where we will celebrate New Years Eve, which may be convenient, considering it migth be a long and winding night!
The Eixample is the commercial centre of Barcelona. The most beautiful street in this area is Passeig de Gracia, where both Casa Mila and Casa Batllo are located. It is here where the Hotel Majestic is ubicated, so a hotel close to this area will be most convenient for you too.
The problem is that hotels and apartments in this area may be expensive.
